Name: Deb Cunningham
Age: 46
Born: Wausau, WI
Occupation: Financial Services Consultant with IQ Business Group.
Family: hubby Dave; kids Amelia (13) and Molly (9); cats Pumpkin, Alex, and Simone, dog Dexter
Favorite restaurant: Rubio’s Baja Grill
Favorite movie: Don’t have one.
Favorite book: I’ll change this to the book that impacted me the most: Sadako & the 1000 Paper Cranes. I don’t like to think about the toll of war on ordinary people, but it’s out there. I’m a peacenik who actually believed the world was becoming a kinder/gentler place before 9/11.
Why did you start running/walking: I started running year round the summer between my freshman & sophomore years of HS. I’m a competitive person (really?) and was so even then. I qualified for the state track meet & wanted to do so again.
Running/walking since: 1976
RMRR member since: 2000
How did you learn about the RMRR: Boulder running company gave us the club discount because they thought we were members. Prompted us to join!
Weekly mileage: 18 except for the one week a month I do a long run of 20+ miles.
Favorite place to run/walk: Wash Park for a shorter run. Highline canal trail for runs of 12+ miles.
Favorite workout: My tough workout is the 90 minute run with a 35 minute tempo run in the middle. I warm up for 20 mins, then run at 170+ HR (90% of max) for 35 mins, then jog the rest of the way home.
Most satisfying performance: Placing third in the American Discovery Trail Marathon on Labor Day, 2007. I raced the entire marathon because I could tell when I was at the start that I had a chance to place. It was mentally draining in addition to physically tiring, but I ran a smart race and achieved my goal.
Favorite RMRR event: My absolute favorite is the Friday night TS race & potluck in August. I look forward to that event all summer. I like talking to all the club members & hanging out on a warm August evening. My second favorite event is the pancake breakfast TS in July.
What do you like about RMRR? I like the good friends I’ve made who also have a passion for running. We go to races together, motivate each other and give back to the Denver running community.
