Wrap-up

Our 5oth Anniversary is history now, but you can relive the event by viewing the photos and looking at Norm Silva’s 1960s-70s Scrapbook!!   At the 50th Reunion, club member Norm Silva showed us the scrapbook of newsletters, Denver Post articles, and more memorabilia from the club in years past. Well, we’ve scanned Norm’s scrapbook, and you can now find it in our Photo Gallery as the Norm Silva Scrapbook. It’s a blast to see everything our club did in its earlier days. I especially liked the doctor’s permission slip allowing Norm to run the Denver Marathon. Good thing for some of us that’s no longer a requirement! Thanks, Norm, for sharing this with us.

A Weeks Worth of Running: RMRR 50th Anniversary Celebration

Here’s the schedule:
Sunday, May 31, 2009 – 8am2 mile Trophy Series race at Bible Park followed by our traditional pancake breakfast.  We had a fantastic morning with over 150 people running!  The weather was lovely, the new course worked well, the post-race pancakes were great…it was just a super day and a great way to start the week.

Monday, June 1 – 7pm:  RMRR Reunion – was fabulously hosted by Runner’s Roost Denver.  We had a great time visiting with running buddies old and new and hearing all their stories.   100 people joined us – it was a immense success!

Tuesday, June 2 – 6pm:  Wash Park fun run – we had a great time with the Denver Runners’ group, doing two laps of the park, then over to Bonnie Brae Pizza for pizza & drinks.  It’s fun to connect with different runners, and we all had a ball.

Wednesday, June 3 – 6:30pm:  Big Track Workout at Heritage High in Littleton led by Maureen Roben.  Maureen is one of the few women to qualify for the Olympic marathon trials four separate times, and has coached 5000 runners through the Team in Training program.  She coached all 50 of us there at the workout, and it was super.  The highlight was the partner/relay interval time – everyone enjoyed the competition!

Thursday, June 4 – 6:00pm:  Trail Running Night at Lair o’ the Bear Park in Jefferson County.  We had a wonderful time running with the Denver Trail Runners at Lair o’ the Bear park.  Great trail for running!  To top it off, the potluck afterwards was a real treat.

Friday, June 5, 7pm:  Predicted Time Run and Birthday Party at Boulder Running Company in Littleton.  We’ll run around the lake south of BRC, and the challenge is to guess your time, then match it…while running without a watch!  Our 1.4 mile race will be started by 1993 World Marathon Champion and BRC owner Mark Plaatjes.   We’ll follow with birthday cake and a party at BRC.  You’ll find running discounts and a great raffle at the party – come join us!

Saturday, June 6 – 8am to noon:  50 Mile Relay!  50 miles to celebrate our 50 years.  This run at the Heritage High School track is sponsored by Catalyst Therapies and Running Wild.   We’ll run 200 laps and a total of 50 miles to celebrate 50 years of RMRR.  Everyone is welcome to run or walk a lap and help us reach our goal.   We have presentations from several sponsors:

  • 10:15am:  Handling Plantar Fasciitis from sports massage therapist Steve Lynn and Catalyst Therapies’ Peter Szymanski.
  • 11am:  Nutrition tips from Dr. Caroline Smith of Sport Sense

Through the morning you can take advantage of running form analysis from Catalyst Therapies, running advice from the experts at Running Wild, and time to ask plenty of questions.  We’ll wrap up our event with a raffle full of giveaways from our sponsors , and you can sign our guest book to mark your place in RMRR history.

History…and a new logo!
