October President’s Message

Hi RoadRunners,

The October TS was beautiful as usual.  96 of you came, including 19 new runners, out to Waterton Canyon for our 10 mile race.  Times on the uphill were faster than expected because of a brisk tail wind.  We didn’t realize that until we turned around & headed down the hill.   Many of us were surprised by the relatively slow downhill times.

With fall comes marathon season and the end of the summer racing season.  We wish those of you with fall marathons a great time!   Those of you who raced with us out on the big dry creek trail should be more than ready after braving the heat.

The MTS is one of RMRR’s biggest fund raising events.  As an all volunteer organization, we put on a limited number of events designed to best-serve our members.  If you have ideas or want to get more involved, email us to get involved.

Happy running!

Deb

An Honorable Run Book tour coming to Denver

Author Matt McCue, a CU Buff runner,  be speaking at Runner’s Roost in Lakewood at 6 pm on Monday, Oct. 19.  Matt’s story is two stories wrapped into one, the first is of a young man who chases his dream of leaving small school Iowa to walk on to the Colorado Buffalo cross country team. The second is the importance of the coaches who influence him along his journey. I am the young man and my coaches were Coach Wetmore and the lesser known Coach Brown from Iowa City Regina. It’s a story of chasing dreams, overcoming obstacles, not giving up,and the importance of mentors.

An Honorable Run has been covered by both Sports Illustrated and Runner’s World. Coach Jay Johnson gave it a great bump on his site. An excerpt of it was posted on Dye Stat.  Or, read the review from The Armory Track in New York.

For more information, see Matt’s website.
