2008 US Olympic Track and Field Trials, Eugene, Oregon Or, how I spent my summer vacation

7/1-2/08 Rest Days

The trials have two rest days in the middle and I can tell you the spectators need it as much as the athletes. There was a lot to do in Eugene. Judd took some time off work and we went out on his jet boat up the Mackenzie River. We spent the rest of the afternoon fly-fishing, drinking microbrew and catching up. It was a great afternoon. I got back to the dorm after the cafeteria had closed and actually had to go out and eat that night.

On Wednesday, Ray and Shari decided to take the kids over to the coast. They asked if I wanted to tag along. It was a great day, seafood for lunch, went to the sea lion caves and took a tour of one of the nearby lighthouses. It was a very relaxing time.

Next time I go to Eugene I might have to rent a car. I understand there are several good wineries in the area.
